DBAR-COAST

The DBAR Coastal Zone Working Group (DBAR-COAST) will focus on promoting cooperation with countries along the Maritime Silk Road to advocate and demonstrate the applications of Big Earth Data in support of the sustainable development of people and economies at local, national, and regional levels and to deliver critical sustainable development policies and strategies for coastal or near-shore environments.

Overview of Activities
DBAR-COAST worked to, enhance data sharing for coastal data for sustainable development, improve communication between different stakeholders for sharing knowledge and information and improve communication system and research programs for sustainable development of coastal and marine resources. The objectives will largely remain the same, with focus on preparation and distribution of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System (RS-GIS) based datasets on coast and coastal development.
DBAR- COAST plans to utilize satellite remote sensing data analysis capability to develop a geospatial database to address SDGs 6, 11, 14, and 15. It will look to engage scientists and experts, organize meetings and workshops for knowledge sharing and networking, develop and compile best cases, success stories and good practices, and integrate local level and scientific knowledge to better management of coastal regions.

Events
DBAR- COAST will continue to work on research and development.

Network Development
DBAR-COAST has built multiple partnerships primary targeting regional cooperation. The MoUs with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Bangladesh and Geo-informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA) Thailand are in works to facilitate research and collaboration with these partners in the next phase.

Deliverables
DBAR-COAST has completed a dataset for coastal features, and a spectral library and backscattering feature database of mangrove forest. Additionally, it has also multiple research publications and inauguration of the DBAR ICoE-Columbia. Its focus is to deliver scientific publications highlighting best practices, case studies and others, develop data archives, facilitate data sharing.

SDGs Addressed
The prime target of DBAR-COAST has been 6, 11, 14 and 15. It has development of a different dataset along the Maritime Silk Road to support SDGs targeted, these include mangrove distribution, Port city PM2.5 daily dataset, coastal aquaculture area distribution dataset for SDG 6, 11, and 14 respectively.
