DBAR-ENVI

The DBAR Environmental Change Working Group (DBAR-ENVI) aims to establish a dynamic analysis of the Belt and Road ecological environment, cooperatively carrying out an ecological environment remote sensing evaluation in the region, revealing the processes and mechanisms of environmental changes in terrestrial ecosystems and water resources, analysing their impact and response to global environmental changes, and assessing the ecological risk of the Belt and Road implementation and the impact of global change.

Overview of Activities
DBAR-ENVI has worked towards a science network and to employ pioneering Earth observation (EO) technologies to improve environmental monitoring in the Belt and Road regions. Additional conducted joint observation and simulation of climate change impact on land surface processes cross temporal and spatial scales, to better understand key global change issues over the region. It is also working to develop EO-based environmental evaluation methods, and provide policy support for regional SDGs along the Belt and Road.
DBAR-ENVI will work to establish a science network and employ pioneering EO technologies and develop an international platform for the release of climate change information based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and International Science Council (ISC).

Events
DBAR-ENVI has done important work on the working group organization and discussions on developing feasibility of DBAR ICoE-Alamaty in Kazakhstan. It plans to launch it in the next phase. It is also working to develop an international platform for the release of climate change information based on IPCC, UNEP and ISC.

Network Development
DBAR-ENVI developed multiple partnerships with international bodies and research organization, with capacity development, joint research, and people to people networking. It also has partnerships with UNEP along with multiple international and regional universities.
DBAR-ENVI is planning to utilize the DBAR ICoE-Bangkok efficiently for networking and collaborations. Additionally, it will evaluate the feasibility of ICoE–Alamaty in Kazakhstan and launch it in next phase if feasible.

Deliverables
DBAR-ENVI developed ecological environment dynamic analysis and resulting thematic products and produced number of publications including 10 journal papers and multiple reports and articles. It is planning to work towards regional research strategy focusing on environmental change, a report on SDGs focusing on environmental change, develop national research platform and work towards Country based research projects.

SDGs Addressed
DBAR-ENVI has worked on indicator 6.6.1 for Goal 6, indicator 15.1.1 and 15.4.2 for Goal 15. Additionally, it also has work for Goal 13.
