MoU signed under DBAR between CBAS and AARSE

The Memorandum of Understanding Between the Digital Belt and Road Program of the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals and the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment, South Africa, was signed to renew and expand the cooperation initially established under the MoU between DBAR and AARSE, dated October 26, 2016, which concluded successfully upon completion of its five-year term in 2021. Professor Huadong Guo, Chair of DBAR and Director General CBAS and Prof. Kamal Labbassi, President of African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment signed the MoU on behalf of the two parties.

This Memorandum of Understanding establishes a collaborative framework between DBAR and A-A-R-S-E with a focus on use of Big Earth Data to support the SDGs. Both parties agreed to work to implement this partnership for continent-wide research and capacity development platform. Both parties to expand on joint research on coastal zone resources, disaster risk reduction, food security, heritage conservation, and environmental monitoring in addition to development of joint publication, editorials, and establishment of information-sharing platforms and to enhance visibility, dissemination, and coordination across the DBAR network. Both have agreed to facilitate DSP under the UN IDSSD framework.

Internationally renowned experts including Prof. Massimo Menenti, Dr. Ishwaran Natarajan, Prof. Rosa Lasaponara, Prof. Nana Sarfo Agyemang Derkyi, Prof Chen Fang, Prof Jia Gensuo, and Prof. Lin Hui joined the signing ceremony as witness.
