MoU signed under DBAR between CBAS and CODATA
The Digital Belt and Road Program of The International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals, The Committee on Data of the International Science Council (CODATA), renewed their MoU, previously signed on July 30, 2018. The new MoU provides updated framework with the shared and common desire to see Big Earth Data support sustainable development and wish to continue their collaboration to further this common objective. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the 10th Digital Belt and Road Conference in Chengdu. The MoU was signed by Professor Huadong Guo, Chair of DBAR and Director General CBAS in Chengdu and Dr. Simon Hudson, Executive Director of CODATA.
The MoU will facilitate enlisting of scientific research, knowledge sharing and capacity building to address knowledge gaps, facilitate decision making and create regional partnerships and research networks. The joint research between the parties will focus on coastal zone resources, disaster risk reduction, agriculture and food security, environmental change monitoring, water and urban issues, and world heritage conservation. The parties will also work to address issues of data interoperability and data integration that are major challenges to research in interdisciplinary domains. They will also work on the development of multi-lateral cooperation mechanisms and frameworks towards coordinated development of a Big Earth Data platform for global sustainable development.
