Overview
The inaugural meeting of the DBAR International Center of Excellence at El Jadida (DBAR ICoE-El Jadida) was held on April 17, 2018 in El Jadida in Morocco. The center is led by the Chouaib Doukkali University in Morocco and the African Association for Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE). The DBAR ICoE-El Jadida “EO-AWARE:Earth Observation for Adaptation of WAter REsources to Climate Variability”, focuses on promoting applications of Earth Observation (EO) to water resource assessment, monitoring and management in North Africa. EO-AWARE targets sustainable development, while the scope embraces also related sectors like agriculture, ecology and environmental protection among others.

Objectives
DBAR ICoE-El Jadida aims to accelerate capacity building and development on utilization of big Earth data in North Africa to monitor and manage water resources, taking due account of land use and cover change and ecosystem conditions. Adaptation of water management to climate change is pursued by promoting scientific research, development of facilities for geospatial projects and by providing EO training to professionals, developing specific curricula for undergraduate students. DBAR ICoE-El Jadida is committed to build an open research network for scientific and technological cooperation in Morocco, with a projection towards a regional center for research in Africa, particularly in northern and western Africa. It aims to become an important African regional cooperation platform to support DBAR big Earth data efforts through data sharing and applications and by providing information and knowledge services.
